Hair has always been my passion. I grew up watching my god sister do hair at my house in my hometown in Silver Spring, MD. I used to sneak and use her tools when she wasn't home to experiment in my hair about at the age of 12. By 14 I started doing my own hair, and when my classmates noticed, they started asking me to do their hair too.
Before long, I was doing hair for a lot of the kids at my high school, and other schools in the area. I was raised by a single mother and I was one of 5 children, so there wasn't a lot of extra money for things other than necessities. I'm grateful I started doing hair young, because I used the money I earned to pay for the expenses from enrolling in college. I moved to Miami, FL to go to college at FIU where I majored in Business Marketing and Japanese Language... but really I was a hairstylist living in a college dorm room. Before long, I was the girl everyone went to on campus to get their hair done.
I had a client one day, whose name also was Ashley, and I just had so much fun doing her hair. Something about that appointment made me want to be a better hairstylist for all of my clients. So I enrolled in hair school right away.
I attended FIU and Paul Mitchell the School Miami simultaneously, while also taking clients in my dorm room. And I decided to start hair school right after I got back from study abroad in Japan. Needless to say, my plate was full. But I had a blast.
After graduating from hair school and college, I started working in hair salons. This is really where my career started to flourish. I continued to fine tune my craft, grew my clientele bigger than I ever have, started my hair extensions company, Akemi Hair, started working on celebrities and production sets for magazines, music videos, large events, reality TV, photoshoots, you name it. I worked in two salons before opening my own in Wynwood.
My salon, Luxe Beauty Loft, was a beautiful place and I had it for 3 years. After that time, I closed it kind of suddenly and had to work from home until I was able to relocate to my salon suite. This was huge because now I became able to focus again on the craft, and not on managing the salon.
That leads me to where I am today. I love doing hair so much and I always get the best clients. Everything I have been able to achieve in my life so far, at my age of 26, has been supported by and made possible by my ability to do hair. No matter where you are, there's always someone who needs their hair done. By mastering these skills, you will always have income. I started making 6 figures at 22 years old. I'm able to support myself, and also provide support for my family because of this skill that I have, and I'm able to be 100% in control of my life, my bank account, and essentially my happiness.
I've been wanting to get into online education so I can start to help others do for themselves what I was able to do for myself.
